BOB PASTESS: Hello everyone, welcome to the Bob Pastess show! I'm Bob Pastess, and today our topic is Seniors: Common problems in everyday life. With us here we have Dr. Hadley, Mr. Zheng Hu Lang, and Mr. Sam Pepper. Say hello, everyone.

DR. HADLEY: Hello, I'm Dr. Hadley. I'm a Geriatric specialist.

ZHENG HU LANG: Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, my name is Zheng Hu Lang, and I work for the Singapore Ministry of Social and Family Development.

SAM PEPPER: Hi everybody! I'm Sam Pepper, and I run a store specializing in tools and gadgets for the elderly.

BOB PASTESS: Nice to meet you all. Here's our first question: What problems are Seniors facing today?

*SAM PEPPER snatches the microphone from BOB*

SAM PEPPER: Well Bob, my grandmother always had trouble bending down, and if she ever dropped something, she had a very hard time retrieving it. I remember one time when--

*BOB grabs the microphone back from SAM*

BOB PASTESS: Yes, thank you, Mr. Pepper. Let's hear from our other participants.

DR. HADLEY: Seniors today are facing several problems, including weak joints, unstable bones, memory loss, and balance and mobility issues. Mobility issues are some of the larger issues affecting Seniors today.

ZHENG HU LANG: I agree. Seniors may also have difficulty hearing, or vision troubles.

BOB PASTESS: So, those are the problems Seniors face. What are some of the solutions in place today? Dr. Hadley?

DR. HADLEY: As for hearing, there are many hearing aids on the market today. Vision troubles can be resolved by wearing glasses, or even surgically, depending on the issue.

*SAM snatches the microphone again*

SAM PEPPER: You know, in my store I have things that can help the elderly, like TV remotes with larger buttons, a cane with a light attached, and a motorized wheelchair. Very fancy! Actually, we're having a sale this weekend if you'd like to--

*ZHENG HU LANG grabs the microphone back from SAM*

ZHENG HU LANG: Yes, well the Singapore Government has also done many thigns to help the elderly. We have built Senior Activity Centers, made more buildings wheelchair-accessible, and upgraded the lifts in HDB flats.

BOB PASTESS: Well, that's all the time we have for today! Thank you for watching the Bob Pastess show! And now a word from our sponsor.
